Winfield DaCosta Greaves, 87, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT following a brief illness.
He leaves his sons Wayne Springer and Ian Greaves(Aimee) ; his daughters Stella Springer, Rita Alphonse, Betty Lewis (Carl), Gail Ellis (John) , Sherry Ann Greaves ( Earl ). He also leaves his stepchildren Trevor Bullen and Margaret Leslie; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Hillaby, St. Thomas, Barbados, the son of Estina Graham and Lewis Herbert, he was a longtime resident of Jackson St. Michael. Winfield immigrated to Hartford, Connecticut, in 1979 where he lived out his life.
He worked for Alvin & Company, in Bloomfield, retiring in 2010. He not only took pride in his work but truly relished the friends he made. He was a longtime member of North United Methodist Church in Hartford.
Winfield was predeceased by his wife Bridget May Isabella Greaves and a brother Lickford Graham. He is survived by his siblings Beresford Greaves of the UK, Oswald Greaves and Vida Bispham, both of Hartford, CT.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 16, 6-8 pm at ALL FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 90 John Fitch Blvd. So. Windsor, CT. Funeral service Friday, March 10, 11 a.m. with calling hour 10 a.m. at North United Methodist Church, 1205 Albany Avenue, Hartford, Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Bloomfield, CT.
