Willie Ray Barnes, affectionately known as “Ray” was born October 30, 1955 in Batesville MS to Carlene and Leon Barnes. He departed this life on October 6, 2021 at the Windsor Rehab Center in Windsor CT.
He was a lifetime resident of Hartford, CT and worked for many years in the community, he would often be seen with his lawnmower in tow walking around the upper Albany neighborhood doing his landscaping throughout the community. He was always willing to help anyone in need often volunteering to help the Angel of Edgewood organization. As a youth and young adult he attended Christ Temple Church of God and Christ. He was a passionate spades player and would sit at any table and talk his smack. He enjoyed playing with his children when they got together.
He leaves to mourn his 4 children: William Barnes-Torrington,CT; Adriane (Jovan)Ward-Newport News VA; Ray-Derrick Barnes-Virginia Beach, VA and Karrin Barnes-East Hartford, CT. His sister Margaret Medlin-Bloomfield, CT and brother Larry Barnes- Hartford, CT and Aunt Dorothy White-Hartford, CT. 13 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. As well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Carlene Barnes, brothers Howard, Verlon and Micheal Barnes and sister Nancy Barnes.
Ray will be loved and remembered by all who knew him. We will continue to treasure the memories and time we had with him.
