William Eric Powell, Jr

William Eric Powell Jr. of Bloomfield, CT passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 7, 2023. William was born and raised in Hartford, son of the late William Eric Powell Sr. and Jannie Eliza Rosemond Powell. William attended all Hartford Schools and after graduation from Hartford High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Paratrooper. When he was a boy growing up, he was affectionally called Junebug by his uncles. William (“Billy”, as his friends called him or Pretty Bill), was always smiling, laughing and never letting the issues of life get him down. He had a million-dollar smile that could light up a room. Billy was the GQ of dressing, with the brim hats, shoes and socks to match. Billy truly lived life on his terms.

Billy leaves to mourn in his passing, his wife Althea Powell; his sisters, Marion Joyce Jacobs of Springfield, MA, Rona Powell of Jamaica, Brother Roy Powell of Florida; Sister In-laws Beverly Monts, Linda, Debra and Lisa Monts of Washington, DC, Rita, Roma and Mary Carr; Brother In-laws Stanley Monts (Karen) of Midlothian, VA, Charles and Dewight Monts of Washington, DC, Greg and Jeffery Carr; His sons Shawn Powell(Teydra Simpson), Kedrick Leggett(Jibrelle) of North Carolina, his daughters, Sherry Powell, Denise Young, Shatavia Kristoff, Lanitress Terry(Wille Wright), Sharon Slater, Precious Hyland, and Mercedes Powell of Texas; Stepchildren, Gerri(Gus) Smith, Ira Williams, Devone (Chasidy)Monts, Rashod Monts, and Robin Bennett of GA. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

William was predeceased by his parents William Eric Powell Sr. and Jannie Eliza Rosemond Powell, sister in-law Betty Monts, daughter Tara Washington and his grandson Shawn Powell Jr.

Burial will be in State Veteran Cemetery, Middletown, CT.
