Vere O. Haynes

Vere O. Haynes 82 of Hartford, CT departed this life on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born in St. Catherine Village, Barbados to the late Millicent Hackett.  He was also educated in the Barbados School System.

In 1964, Vere migrated to Hartford, CT and began working in the tobacco fields.  In 1964, Vere became employed with the Hebrew Home where he moved up in the ranks from an orderly to the position of Business Materials Manager.  He was still employed up until the time of his passing.  His famous words were “I’m going to work until the day I die and that he did.  He worked for the Hebrew Home for 52 years.

His favorite past times were spending time with beloved wife Helen every Saturday shopping and watching CNN.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Helen Haynes; four children: Mervin Holloway ( Brooklyn, NY), Tammy Dawkins (Hartford, CT), Irvin Dawkins ( Aliquippa, PA), Heather Cook (New Britain, CT); four grandchildren: Tyesha Vaughan ( Broad Brook, CT), Ashleigh Adams (New Britain, CT), Ciara Vaughan (Hartford, CT) Sierra Vasquez (New Britain, CT), one great grandson: Vere’siah N. Vaughan (Broad Brook, CT); three siblings: Wayne Haynes (Yvonne), Maxine Hubbard (Harry) (St. Catherine, Barbados), Darcy Haynes (Carmen) (Toronto, Canada) and one devoted sister-in-law, Ann Wallace (Aliquippa, PA) and a host of relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016, with calling hours from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 am  at Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Avenue, Windsor, CT:  Interment will be in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT
