Susan Dell (Ewing) Grant, 79, affectionately known as “Sue,” beloved wife of the late Edgar Grant, Sr. for 53 years, gained her heavenly wings on Monday, December 20, 2021 with her loving family by her side.
Susan was born September 1, 1942 in ackson Springs, NC, daughter of the late George and Willie (McClean) Ewing.
She relocated with her siblings to Connecticut in the late 1950’s, after a brief residence in Providence, RI, finally settling in Hartford as a lifelong resident.
She worked at Wethersfield Manor and after a short sabbatical, she gained employment at Community Health Services (CHS), followed by the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). She returned to what is now called Mediplex of Wethersfield Rehab, establishing tenure of 33 years as a CNA. Her generous love and kindness for the sick, elderly and less fortunate ‘Unsung Heroes’, was her true gift from God - best summed up in song –
“. . .If I can help somebody, as I pass along, If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song . . . then my living shall not be in vain.”
Through the years, she loved traveling to different cities and states with her church family for COGIC Conventions, adorning fancy ensembles and COGIC hats. Additional enjoyments included baking; trying new recipes; singing in choirs; family gatherings; spending time with her
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and studying the Holy Bible.
Though Sue loved to laugh and have a good time, she always made time for you - building valued relationships - and mindful to make you feel important – which in turn, made you smile. She will be tremendously missed by family and friends.
Sue leaves to cherish her memory her five children Diane, Jerome (Joeann), Donna, Edgar, Jr. (Arlene) and Zelda Grant; Stepchildren Charlene, Cookie and Althea (Joy) Grant; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a host of adored nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son Robert Grant; three sisters Georgia McKinney, Jewel Russell (Thomas) and Geneva Davis; as well as five brothers Jack, Felton, Leonard, Al Nathan, twin brother Odell Ewing
(Katherine); four nephews William, Martin, Pierre and Brian; and three nieces Willie, Sheryl and Letitia.
