Stephanie A. Monroe of Bloomfield, CT went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018. She was born in Hartford, CT on September 10, 1950 to the late Richard N. and Arnena (Stephens) Payne. She attended Hartford Public High School and The University of Hartford where she received her degree in Business Administration. She also successfully completed and received her certification in Culinary Arts and Food Management from Capital Community College. She worked as a Legal Assistant with private attorneys and law firms throughout the Greater Hartford area. Stephanie was well known for her “Who Baked That Cake” business specializing in home-made coconut cakes, sweet potato pies and banana pudding.
Stephanie gave her life to the Lord and joined Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Richard A. Battles, Jr. She was a faithful member, served on the Trustee Board Ministry, assisted members and non-members with their bereavement needs. Stephanie was a strong, caring and giving woman with a heart of gold. She loved the Lord, her church and her family! Her favorite quote was “It’s Nice To Be Important but More Important To Be Nice”.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Kevin M. Payne, Sr., of Missoula, MT, Marlon R. Monroe, Sr., of Hartford, CT, and daughter, Dia A. Monroe of Bloomfield, CT., four sisters, Judith K. Payne of Avon, CT, Cynthia P. Lee (John) of Portland, OR, Sharon L. Payne of West Hartford, CT, Rose Y. Payne-Greene (Earle) of Hartford, CT, two brothers, John K. Payne, Sr. (Nadine) of Temecula, CA and Stephen M. Payne, Sr. of Portland, OR., 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Stephanie was pre-deceased by a sister, Andrea E. Payne and a brother, Richard N. Payne, Jr.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Wake; Service at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Church Ministries – 20 Battles Street -Hartford, CT 06120.
