Shirley (Tubbs) Jones

Windsor, CT —Shirley (Tubbs) Jones, age 75, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Dorsey Jones, Sr.  Shirley Jones leaves her daughter Patricia Jones Mack and her husband (Robert), her son Jimmy D. Jones, Jr, (Gwen) her grandchildren, Jimmy D. Jones III, and Kalen Jones, her sisters Bettie Jean Gooden of Marion, AL, Lois Jones (Larry) of Chicago, IL, her brother Cecil Tubbs of Marion, AL, her Sister-in-Law, Emily Kay Iyare of Bloomfield, CT, and a host of nieces and nephews and many other friends.

Born in Heiberger, Alabama and raised in Marion, Alabama, Shirley was the daughter of John S.Tubbs and Annie (Sullivan) Tubbs. Shirley was a long-time resident of Hartford, Connecticut.

Shirley graduated from Lincoln High School and Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama with a B.S. in Mathematics. In addition, Shirley received a M.S. Degree in Reading at Central Connecticut State University. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy in 1963. Shirley’s profound commitment to education and children led her to become a Reading Teacher for East Hartford Public Schools for 30 years.

Shirley Jones’ infectious smile, positive attitude and wonderful spirit will be missed by her loved ones and friends.
