Samuel Edward Davis, Sr., 72 entered into eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 with his family by his side. Sam was born on April 11, 1949 in Granville County, NC to the late James Davis and late Ellis Cooper Davis. In 1964, Sam relocated to New Haven, CT and moved in with his older sister Ruth. Sam attended Scranton Street School and graduated from Richard C. Lee High School, where he was on the varsity boys basketball team. Sam was an avid basketball fan. His favorite teams were the Duke Blue Devils and the Charlotte Hornets. Sam was fashionable, cool and drove the nicest cars. He owned a GTO, Cadillac and was the only one in the city of New Haven with a Jaguar. Sam was a smooth dude, he used to hang out with the likes of Richard Roundtree and dated the late singer Natalie Cole. Then, years later, Sam gave his life to Christ. Sam was most recently a member of Harvest International Christian Center under the leadership of Bishop Elijah and Apostle Maggie Joyner. He previously attended Glorified Deliverance Center Church under the leadership of the late Bishop William and late Pastor Bernice Peterson, and Faith and Deliverance Church under the leadership of Pastor Oscar and Verlean Bittle where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. Sam will be missed by many. Sam leaves to cherish his memory five children, Sons: Troy Lamar Hart (Jasmine) of Windsor, CT, Samuel E. Davis, Jr. and Sakeem Davis of New Haven, CT. Daughters: Tiffany Hart and Samia Davis both of New Haven, CT. Eight Grandchildren: Allen, Lavonne, Kaziya, Jayla, D’asia, Essence, TJ and Skylar. One Great-Granddaughter, Xyla. He leaves three brothers: Rossie Cooper of NC, John and Melvin (Lorretta) Davis both of CT. Sisters: Ida and Pearl Davis of CT and Special Sister Ruth Dixon of CT. One aunt, Mary Stroud of CT and four special nieces: Felicia McMillan, Lisa Davis, and Shanae Davis all of CT and Betty McNeil of NC. And a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Ellis Davis, brothers, James “Yaya” Davis and Tommy Chavis. One sister, Beatrice “Lil Bit” Davis Perry. Nephews Eddie and Earl “5” Davis and Lamont and Jamie Perry.
