In the early morning of Friday December 29, 2023, Roxanne Alberta Price of Windsor, CT, passed away at the UConn John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT. She was 84 years old.
Roxanne was born in South Carolina but spent her formative years in Pennsylvania. In her teens, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she graduated high school and completed her undergraduate and graduate studies. While there, Roxanne met and married Philip Chance and together they raised a daughter, Maxine Price. When Philip accepted an advertising position with a firm in Connecticut, the family moved from Brooklyn, New York to New Britain, CT.
In her new environment, Roxanne enjoyed shopping, decorating her home, and maintaining a meticulous yard. She became known in the community for her beautiful plants and extensive annual holiday decorations. In 1991, a grandson, Maxwell Price, who Roxanne loved and adored, was a welcome addition to the family. For many years, Roxanne worked for the Department of Corrections until her retirement. She enjoyed making a difference in the lives of the inmates she taught. In 2021, Roxanne moved to Windsor, CT.
Roxanne is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Samuel, father, Vernon Small, husband Philip Chance and daughter Maxine Price. She is survived by her grandson, Maxwell Price; sisters Laverne Small, Georgia, Beverly Suero (John), Maryland and Patricia Azogu, Georgia; aunt, Janie Elnora Samuel, Ohio; cousins Roosevelt Samuel, Virginia, Freeman Samuel (April), Canada, Franthon Minor, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends, and a very special 7 year old, Julian, who will definitely miss his “Bubby”. Special thanks to cousins Winthrop Wiltshire, Grenada, Lynette Sealy-Atwell, Trinidad for your Reiki and many prayers, and Audrey Alodat, New York, for always being able to make Roxanne laugh. An incredibly special thank you to close friends Annie Mae Holmes-Cheney and Chanti Honore-Lattimore, for all your help and support to Roxanne.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. Jarrod Post and the other physicians and staff at Starling Physicians for all the care provided to Roxanne.
