Occie Lee Giles, 82, of Hartford, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2017. She was born in Axton, Virginia on October 5, 1934 to the late Jesse and Julia (Dillard) Giles. In 1962, she made the decision to move to CT accompanied by her young daughter and fueled by her determination to begin a new chapter in her life. Occie worked tirelessly to provide for her family and instilled in them a passionate love for Christ. She was a devoted member and Mother of Greater Faith Deliverance Church, under the leadership of the late Apostle T.C. Pettaway, for several decades. Occie was predeceased by three sisters; Nanny K. Hairston, Abbie S. Hylton, and Lillie R. Scales as well as three brothers; Claude R. Giles, Jesse F. Giles, and Henry Clay Giles. She is survived by her brother Franklin D. Giles of Delaware. Occie was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Margaret "Joan" Giles and Lisa S. Giles; a devoted niece, Dorscenia "Gail" Giles; 5 grandchildren, Richard L. Cauley (Chaurise), the late Tanya S. Cauley, Tamysha Cauley-Curtis (Carlton), Jelisa D. Hairston and Tanaia R. Fitch; 11 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great, Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Occie was a praying woman who thoroughly enjoyed reading the Bible and singing Gospel songs. She loved to bake cakes, cook large dinners and was known for feeding any and all that needed a meal. Occie was an incredible woman who touched the lives of everyone she met and was adored by all that knew her.
