Morris Baker, 85, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1941, in Lee County, Alabama to the late West and Mattie Lee (Vinson) Baker.
As a young man, Morris migrated north with his family to Hartford, Connecticut, where he met and married his wife, Maxine, and welcomed their only child. He retired in 2005 after 40 years of dedicated service at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford.
Morris loved working with his hands. He was the person everyone called when something needed to be built or fixed. If you brought him a problem, he was quick to find a solution. He enjoyed working in his garden, planting vegetables, and caring for the beautiful flowers around his home. Morris was deeply devoted to his family, especially his granddaughter Emily, whom he proudly introduced to everyone as “My Grandbaby.” He also had a strong faith and faithfully attended church services. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served dutifully on the Trustee Board for many years.
Morris was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Carl Baker (Sandra) of East Hartford; granddaughter, Emily Baker of Newington; a sister, Virgie Nell Devonish of Bloomfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Maxine Baker.
