Margaret Eugenie Hemmings, 93, also known as “Mama” and “Aunt Maggie” went into
God’s loving embrace on December 26, 2021. Margaret was born in Kingston, Jamaica W.I. on
October 8, 1928 and had resided in Hartford, CT for the past 25 years. She was a member of
Hope SDA Church in Bloomfield. Margaret was a mother to many; a homemaker, an amazing
‘family chef’ who loved to prepare her wonderful, unique recipes for family and friends and an
avid NY Knicks basketball fan. She loved to travel and had memorable visits to the Bahamas,
England and Hawaii and to her native island of Jamaica.
She is survived by her8 children, Diana, Claudette, June, Marlene, Michael, Derrick, Faith and
Paulette; 25 grandchildren, Corey, Gareth, Cindy, Andre, Sashana, Deidre, Tracey, Racquel,
Shawn, Meisha, Keisha, Marlon, Jody, Chris, Rohan, Ricardo, Niqua, Quana, Shania, Sanya
Asha, Tassy, Kenny, Neil and Fabian; numerous great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren
in the US, UK and Jamaica. She is also survived by a special niece, Dana Little
(Alvin}; Cassandra; special grand nephew, Marlon Smith and grand nieces, Jolani and
Reshima. Margaret was predeceased by her mother, Louise Mason (Atkinson); father, Noel
Mason and two sisters, Cynthia Mason and Patricia Fung (Mason).
The family also extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Connecticut Community Care
and Season’s Hospice & Palliative Care for their assistance and support before, during and
after her passing.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 14th, 9am at Hope SDA Church, 1052 Blue Hills Avenue,
Bloomfield, CT followed by burial in Mount ST Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. All Faith
Memorial Chapel, South Windsor, CT in charge of arrangements.
