Magna Harper

Magna Myrl DaSilva Alleyne Harper, 72, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025.  Magna was born on March 18, 1953, in Arthur Seat, St. Thomas, Barbados, to the late Livingston and Myrl Alleyne.    Magna graduated from Springer Memorial Secondary School in Barbados.  Magna retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services after 30 years of dedicated employment.  Magna was first and foremost, a loving, devoted mother and grandmother.  She was a caring, dedicated, friend, sibling, and family member.  She was adored by all who knew her for her compassionate nature and selfless love of others.  She opened her arms, home, and heart to many.  She was a fierce advocate and protector of those she loved.  Magna enjoyed volunteering her time and over the years served as a volunteer at her daughters’ school, a Sunday School teacher, and a Girl Scout troop leader.  Magna lived life on her terms and was even a bit of a rebel at heart.  She loved to whistle, sing, and dance…she especially enjoyed wukking up to Soca music.  She loved nature, the earth, animals, her garden, and had a prolific green thumb.  She loved her tea…and always had a cup ready to go in the microwave. She leaves to mourn, her two daughters, Robyn Harper Gulley (and husband Nathan) and Renee Harper (and former husband Zaahir), both of Hartford, CT.  Her former husband and father of her children, Ricardo Harper of Goose Creek, SC.  Siblings, Grattan Alleyne (and wife Betty) of Bloomfield CT, Yvette Drakes of Hartford CT, Yolanda Ramsay of Barbados, Vanwert Alleyne (and wife Jennifer) of Hagerstown MD, Zelia Kellman (and husband Adrian) of Barbados, and Mario Alleyne of Barbados.  Her grandchildren, Kyle Wells (Kelsey), Rhyan Harper, Tyrek Gulley, Tariq Wells, Genesis Harper-Gulley (Tyshia), Khalid Wells, Sanaa Harper-Gulley, Amari Wells, and Hasan Wells.  Bonus grandchildren Quinlan Ferris, Kianna Davis, Keyosha Jones, Telaysia Allen, Sadejah Blake, Talia Asberry, and Cori Scott.  Great grandchildren Lailany, Zayvien, Juelz, Tyri, Kyle III, Legend, Kori, Sol-Larenz, and Kylen.  In-laws Corrine Alleyne and Nigel Harper.  Close friends Jocelyn Luke (Kenrick Drakes) and Ana Box.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Livingston and Myrl Alleyne, her siblings, Pritchard Alleyne (Pat), Mencha Collymore (Martin), Angela Alleyne, and Ricardo Alleyne Sr., in-laws Austin Drakes, George Ramsay, Coral Hall, and Neil Harper.  She will be greatly missed. .  Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield, Connecticut.  The family is accepting friends and loved ones for a repast, from 4:00pm until 6:00 pm at the Collin Bennett Building located at 1229 Albany Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut.
