Leonard Sengali Dickerson passed away on Monday January 9th 2017 at Saint Francis Hospital with family and friends by his side. He was born November 11, 1933 in Chicago, IL.
He is survived by his wife Valencia (Fay) of 28 years. His two sisters, Louise Becon and Yvonne Fatherree, and his children, Arnita , Patrick, Gina,Vasper aka Moon, Peter, Angel, Calvin, Lynora aka London aka Puddin. His grandchildren, Erica, Tequan, Nassir, Torryle, Blair, Pierce, David, Kimyatta, Tiffany, Taylor and Anthony. His great grandchildren, Sinsere, James, Khristiane, Saphire, Diamonte, Dewayne, Denisse, Brandon, Keyvah, Dominique, Parris, Richard, Sakari, Joyce and Ania. His great, great grandchildren, Shenelle, Zuri, and Cali. He was pre-deceased by his mother Monnie Dickerson and his father Leonard Dickerson Sr., his brother Julius Daniels and sister Henrietta Glorley.
Accolades – “Sengali” attended Doolittle Grammar School, and Holy Angel Catholic School in Chicago. He was a member of the Black Elephants, Executive Director - Kenwood Oaklawn Community Organization (KOCO), Chief spokesman for Black P. Stone Nation, received 20 Year Commemoration Award of Appreciation for his contribution in advancing the role of blacks and other minorities in Chicago's construction industry. After moving to CT, he became the minister for the Outreach Program at Horace Bushnell Church and the Robert Mack Center; he also worked for Upper Albany (UACO). He received certificate of status as a Commissioned Worker in the United Church of Christ. He worked as a Property Manager for Greater Hartford Realty on Garden Street for 30 years, helping people find affordable housing.
