Kevin Bell Obituary

Kevin Lamont Bell, 48, of Hartford, CT was born to Cheryl Y. Bell and Manuel R. Gomes on April 30, 1966.  Kevin's last alarm was on October 7, 2014 in the Line of Duty.  He is truly Hartford's Bravest; Kevin died a HERO.

Kevin graduated from Weaver High School in 1984 where he played football and ran track.

He was also affiliated with several sports leagues and fraternities notably the Hartford Flag  Football League, the Nelton Court Basketball League, the Group Organization and the Roughnecks Organization.

He was affectionately known as DJ Kut Master B-Stro the Originator because he was a phenomenal DJ.  Kevin's DJ journey began at 12 years of age.  By the time he was a teenager he was in a group called The Busy Boys and they were signed to BeePee Records in 1984. 

They released several records notably Funky Fresh Xmas, That's the Flava and Renita just to name a few. Kevin also produced several groups and artists notably the Renegades and 4 Black Faces.

For many years he was a security guard for the Hartford Public School System.  He served as a special officer/wrestling coach at Cheney Technical School in Manchester, CT.  He was also employed at Mass Mutual in Enfield, CT.  In 2008 Kevin began his career as a Hartford Fire recruit.  After graduating from the Training Academy he was assigned to Engine Co. 11 Tour D.  In May of 2012 he was assigned to Engine Co. 14, Tour A and then in May 2013 he was assigned to Engine Co. 16, Tour A.

Kevin had so many gifts some of which are cooking, playing drums and his expertise with electronic devices.  Kevin had an amazing love for people and would help anyone. His knowledge of history was extraordinary. To know him is to love him!

Left to cherish his legacy is his longtime love Wayatte (Mama) Statham-Bell, their adoring  daughter Racquel Bell and their dog Chanel.  His mother Cheryl Y. Bell, father Manuel R. Gomes both of Hartford, CT.  Brothers Shawn Bell Sr. (Kimberly) of Windsor, CT and Elliott Bell of  Windsor, CT.  Sisters Torraine Bell-Grimes (Sean) and Sharonda Bell both of Manchester, CT.  Joyce (Gomes) Evans (William); Betty (Gomes) Clancy (Andrew) both of Hartford, CT; Elliott Bell Sr. of Windsor, CT; Crystal Bell of Windsor, CT; Debra Bell of Noonan, GA; Gregory Bell of Hartford, CT; Cavette Bell of Windsor, CT; Kathy Bell-Napper (Henry) of Windsor, CT; Orlando Bell (Sandra) of Noonan, GA and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Evelyn Bell and Stanley Weaver, Manuel and Margaret Gomes and beloved Preeman Faniel.  Aunts Constance Gomes-Amos, Donna Smith, Diane Smith and great aunts Pearl (Bell) Smith and Mary Bell.

Funeral service will be Monday, October 13,11 a.m. with calling hour 10 a.m. at First Cathedral Church, 1151 Blue Hills Avenue, Bloomfield, CT.  Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
