James Edward Sweet, 53, of Bristol, CT, went on to be with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford Connecticut.
James was born to James Sweet, Sr., and Leila (Owens) Sweet on July 10, 1962, in Hartford, CT. Affectionately known by family and friends as “Sweets,” “Big Jim,” “Jim Jr.,” “Music Man,” “Big Mouse” and “Daddy Sweets,” James was a lifelong member of The First Cathedral (formerly The First Baptist Church) where he attended until his illness.
Attending Hartford Public Schools, James graduated from Weaver High School in 1980. After high school, he enrolled at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, in pursuit of his passion in Communications and Radio Broadcasting. James really enjoyed spinning the wheels on the 1’s and 2’s, which earned him one of his many nick names, “Music Man.” He also made CDs and DVDs for family and friends. James took great pride in bringing a smile to the faces of those around him.
A man of his word, James was always giving of his time, whether it was taking a friend to the grocery store, sitting with a friend for hours while the cable guy installed cable, delivering fried Turkeys on Thanksgiving morning or just running an errand for his mom. He was committed to those he loved. James will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Just his presence brought joy to so many.
James is survived by his mother, Leila Sweet of Bloomfield, CT; two brothers Cornell Sweet of Hartford, CT, Rudolph “Rudy” Sweet of St. Petersburg FL; four aunts, two uncles, special friends Michael Ruff and Lionel “Mr. T” Thompson, Sr., and a host of family and friends. James was predeceased by his father James Sweet, Sr., and brother, Derrick Sweet.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016, 10:00am at The First Cathedral Church, 1151 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, CT.
