James "Boots" Edward Harris, Sr

James “Boots” Edward Harris, Sr. passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 84. He was a devoted father, family man, and a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

Boots was born on October 23, 1941, in Garden City, New York, to the late Samuel Harris and Martha Hawthorne. He later became a longtime resident of Hartford, Connecticut, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.

Throughout his life, James was known for his strong work ethic. He was employed by Laura Laundry, Fuller Brush, and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, where he dedicated many years of service until retiring at the age of 62.

Boots had a lifelong love for cars and motorcycles and took great pride in teaching his children how to drive. Family meant everything to him—especially the gatherings known as his famous family picnics and barbecues. One of his favorite memories was packing all seven children into the car for fun-filled days at Riverside Park.

In quieter moments, Boots enjoyed watching his favorite television shows, including In the Heat of the Night, Good Times, classic cowboy movies, and sports. He was especially proud to cheer on the UConn Women’s Basketball team and was a devoted New England Patriots fan.

Boots is survived by two sons, James E. (Jimmy) Harris, Jr. (Crystal) and Daniele S. (Yok) Harris (Norma); seven daughters, Patricia Stowers, Shirley Campbell (Calvin), Adrienne (River) Lauray, Valerie Lowry (Lynn), Tawana Jewell, Francine Hill and Stephanie Smith; two brothers, Wilbert Harris and Wayne T. Harris, Sr. (Dorita); three sisters, Lucille Thompson, Ida Hudson and Martha Jackson; a sister-in-law, Alice Womack-Harris; and a loving host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; he also leaves to cherish his memory Betty J. Harris

Boots was preceded in death by his wife, Mitchellene Banks - Harris; three brothers, Walter Harris, Sr., Robert Lee Harris, Sr., and Joseph Harris; and his son Marvin R. (Buddy) Harris
