A Time to Be Born
Each of us came into this world through a divine plan of an all wise God. God, who gives us form, shapes our souls in unique ways to be used to glorify and honor Him. Herman Nedrick McKenzie, one of five children, was born on October 29, 1944, in Hanover, Jamaica, to the late Beatrice Nedrick Ottey and Alfred McKenzie. Herman lived in Connecticut for most of his life.
A Time to Live
Herman came to the United States in March of 1970 seeking a college education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and a Master’s degree in Business Management. Herman married his wife Marcia D. McKenzie in 1975 and went on to raise a family. He had a secular career as Vice President in insurance and banking from 1979 through 1994. He later started a real estate and mortgage brokerage firm, HRC Mortgage, with his business partner Claude Marshall.
A Time to Serve
Herman was saved in 1988 under the ministry of Grace Baptist Church, Windsor CT where he served for 10 years as a lay person, teacher, and later as a deacon. In 1991 he started two nursing home ministries in Windsor and Hartford, CT. He surrendered to the preaching ministry in 1994, obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from Patriot University, and August 15,1995 Herman and Marcia began a weekly Bible study fellowship. Herman was ordained by Grace Baptist Church in 1997 and the weekly Bible study was formalized as New Covenant Baptist Church on March 16, 1997 with Herman as the Senior Pastor.
A Time to Die
For all are born to die and life and death are in the hands of God. Herman departed this life on Wednesday, March 17, 2023, and entered his Heavenly Home with his Savior Jesus Christ. His mother Beatrice Nedrick Ottey, father Alfred McKenzie, and brother’s Leon Clarke and Wilfred McKenzie received God’s promise of a Heavenly Home prior to his departure and awaited his entrance.
A Time to Mourn
Herman was a godly servant of God, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle, and will be truly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Marcia D. McKenzie (Bloomfield, CT), daughters Donyell Dickinson and her husband Niyah Dickinson (Atlanta, GA), Delvine McKenzie (Bloomfield, CT), Kasinda (McKenzie) Bristol and her husband Marvin Bristol (E. Hartford, CT), son Ashon McKenzie and his wife Jennifer McKenzie (Columbus, OH), and his sisters Pauline McKenzie (Canada), Evalyn McKenzie (Springfield, MA), and 8 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Time to Rejoice
For beyond this world lies the purpose of death for the saints of God which is to gain life everlasting in God’s great domain. No need to make this journey alone; God has promised to care for His own.
