Helen R. Thompson, 85, of Windsor, CT, transitioned peacefully at home Saturday May 18, 2024. She was born May 8, 1939, in Wilson, NC to the late Marcellus Curby and Brownie Mae Johnson. Helen married her late husband, Joseph Thompson. Together they had three children, Bernard Jerome Thompson, Tammy Denise Thompson, and Andrena Copeland. Helen and Joe moved to Hartford, CT in 1966. She worked in the hotel industry at the Sheraton for over 35 years as a housekeeper. She then moved on to become a supervisor and seamstress. She continued as an employee for the Sheraton/Hilton until she retired. Everyone knew the 19th floor was Helen's floor! She was a fast worker and would always help others when her work was done. While her coworkers would come to work dressed in their uniform, Helen had a sense of fashion and her coworkers loved that she came to work dressed to impress.
Helen was a loving mother, the best grandmother, and well known as Aunt Helen or Mama Helen. She was so sweet, very loving, free hearted, and had a unique sense of humor. She was a best friend and confidant to her children. She loved to cook and everyone loved her signature pound cake. She was a member of New Life in Christ Holy House of Prayer under the leadership of Bishop L. Thompson for over 30 years. She was a member of the Power Light Auxiliary, a soloist with a willing spirt, and a hard worker in the financial programs.
Helen was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Bernard Thompson. Two daughters, Tammy Thompson, and Andrena Copeland (Theodore). A grandson Javoni Gilmore (Dyshanna). A granddaughter, Brittany Thompson. A great-grandchild Giana Gilmore. A sister in law, Margaret Morrison. An admired nephew, Bishop L. Thompson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Thompson. Her father, Marcellus Curby. Her mother, Brownie Mae Johnson. And her sister, Gayle Johnson.
