Harold E. Balfour 90, of Hartford, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 3rd 2015. Born in Cuba, he migrated to Jamaica at a very early age. He was the third child of the late Arthur and Mabel Balfour. Harold and his brother Gilbert migrated to the United Kingdom and served in the Royal Air Force from 1944-1949. Upon returning to Jamaica, they both joined the Jamaica Police Force from 1950-1955. Harold migrated to the United States in 1955, settled in Bloomfield, CT and resided there for sixty years. He worked at Hartford Electric Company (HELCO) and retired after 35 years of service. He later worked for the Bloomfield School District as a School Crossing Guard until 2011. Harold joined North United Methodist Church in the 1970s and remained a member until his death. He leaves to mourn his cherished wife, Thora Baptiste-Balfour; sons: Lance and wife Janet of Florida, Noel and wife Maria of Windsor, MacArthur of Texas; a daughter, Yvette of Bloomfield; stepsons: Patrick Baptiste of Virginia, Michael Baptiste and wife Regina of Texas; stepdaughters: Christine Baptiste-McCalla and husband Phillip and Helen Baptiste-Mooney and husband Richard both of Hartford; brothers: Gilbert and wife Thora of Florida, Ernest and wife Tien Lam of Windsor; Aston of Bloomfield, Ralston and wife Yvonne of Jamaica; a sister, Rose and husband Denton of New York; nineteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, family members and friends. He was compassionate, kind and generous and truly loved his family. Services to celebrate Harold’s life will take place on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Calling Hours from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at North United Methodist Church, 1205 Albany Ave., Hartford, CT. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT. ALL FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL 90 John Fitch Blvd. So. Windsor, CT has charge of arrangements.
