H. D. Davis Obituary

H.D. Davis (85), beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle, departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 31st, 2024.

Born on September 2, 1938 in Cuthbert, Georgia to Sallie Mae Davis and Harmon Davis, he was the second of four children. H.D. relocated to Hartford, Connecticut nearly 60 years ago and established himself as a dedicated construction worker. He was employed by Charter Oak Utility Constructors for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2003.

While he appeared to have a tough exterior, he is characterized by his kindness, unique charm, immense loyalty, extreme generosity and incredible work ethic. He is known for graciously dedicating his time to doing favors for family, friends, neighbors, as well as his tenants.

These kind acts include helping people move, providing financial assistance to those in need, rides to and from work, doctor appointments or the grocery store, plowing peoples’ driveways/shoveling walkways and babysitting his grandchildren.

H.D. had an unassuming quick wit with regards to his unpredictable commentary when referencing a person, place, or situation that he had an opinion about. He lived life on his own terms, often making his own rules.

When it came to teaching life skills, he demonstrated old school beliefs and practices as evidenced by his attempts to teach his granddaughter how to drive at approximately seven years old and to cook bacon at age five.

HD enjoyed what some may perceive as the simple things in life. He was an avid lover of cars from a young age and in his later years enjoyed spending quality time with his granddaughter, attending many of her extracurricular activities, listening to the blues, watching boxing, old western films, basketball games and going for long walks and drives.

He was predeceased by his parents Sallie Mae Davis and Harmon Davis, brothers, Leroy “Buddie” Davis, Welton “Tillie” Davis, and sister Bernice Davis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughter Stephany Hunt, granddaughters Albani Hunt and Jocelyn Brown, sister-in-law Annie Davis Moses and a host of nieces and nephews.

H.D.’s legacy of hard work and generosity will forever be remembered with deep admiration and gratitude.

A memorial service will be held at All Faith Memorial Chapel in South Windsor, CT on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 12:30pm.
