Obituary

Gloria Hutchins, 81, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2022. Born on July 17, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Mildred (Richardson) Hutchins. She was a lifelong resident of Hartford, CT, raised in Bellevue Square and graduated from Hartford Public Schools.

Gloria worked for Aetna and Loomis Chaffee until her retirement after many years of dedicated service. Gloria was a devoted mother of five and was loving and caring to all those who came on her life path. She was known to always have an open door to family and friends, many who

lived with her, and whom she raised. Her house was always the place to get home cooked meals, family game nights, get-togethers and any gathering, everyone knew they could pop up and stop by at any given time.

Gloria was quick-witted, feisty and always gave an honest opinion. To some, they may see her as bold, yes, but she was truthful and never wanted anyone to go in the wrong direction. She brought joy and laughter to many. Gloria was a member of the North End Senior Center and enjoyed meeting up with her friends, having lunch, playing bingo, the crocheting club and attending day bus trips. She loved listening to music, especially her “oldie but goodie” music channels.

Her hobbies included puzzles, crocheting and more recently electronic coloring books.

Gloria leaves behind her sister Verga Johnson and daughters Darlene (Melvin) Shell, Deborah Hardy, Charlayne Hutchins and son Dwight Hutchins. Grandchildren Shawntay Hutchins, La’Toya Hutchins, Corey (Sarah) Hutchins, Troy Hardy, Darnell Hutchins, Yvette Hutchins. Two Great-Grandchildren Ava Hutchins and Xander Hutchins. Nieces, Cynthia, Jacqueline, Theresa, Sherri, Patricia, Robin, Nanette, Chara and April. Nephews, Jason, Russell, Cedric, Gregory and Brian. Along with a host of great nieces and great nephews.

She also leaves behind her three sister friends Millicent Gill, Emily Doyle and Naomi Davis along with Arnold Brewer and Glenville Gill who she affectionately called her brothers.

Besides her parents Gloria was predeceased by her two brothers Wayne Hutchins and Warren Hutchins and sisters June Hutchins-Betsey, Shirlene Goodwin and a son Corey D. Hutchins. Niece, Doreen Hutchins and nephew Paul Betsey.
