Geraldine Riddick Burgin, daughter of the late David Riddick and Ellen Richardson Riddick, was born on January 22, 1938 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, July 1, 2022 at her home in East Hartford, Connecticut.
She was the third of four children and the only daughter born to David and Ellen. Geraldine grew up in the old Truxton section of Portsmouth and graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School in Portsmouth. Geraldine attended Saint Paul College in Lawrenceville, Virginia where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching Career in the Pittsylvania County School System where she taught Head Start, Kindergarten, and First Grade in Gretna, Virginia.
It was Gretna where Geraldine met the love of her life Marvin Burgin. They later married and moved making East Hartford, Connecticut their home. At the time of Geraldine’s death, they had been married for 51 years.
Geraldine will be remembered fondly for her beauty including her lovely smile, her love for family, and her loving spirit. She will also be remembered for her peaceful demeanor and her desire to help but wanting to always stay in the background.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her daughter Tiffani, her parents David and Ellen and two of her brothers Bobby and Ronald.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband Marvin; her devoted son Trevor Burgin & wife Khalilah of Bloomfield, CT; 2 grandsons Jakhi Burgin and Tahj Burgin; 1 brother Charles Richardson & wife Audrey of Portsmouth, VA; 2 brothers-in-law Norman Burgin and James Burgin of Newton, NC; and 1 sister-in-law Ellen Patterson of Newton, NC. Survivors also include special family members Aly Armstrong, Lucille Dobrin, and Evelyn Lewis who she considered her close sisters; Matthew Stanley and Homer Ward who she considered her close brothers; Joseph Griffin, Jerry Fabian, and Jason Outlaw who she considered her additional sons. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
