Evangelist Easley Obituary

Evangelist Barbara Jean Easley
September 30, 1949 – October 21, 2025

Evangelist Barbara Jean Easley, 76, of East Hartford, Connecticut, gained her wings on October 21, 2025. She was born on September 30, 1949, to the late John L. Crouch and Marion Crouch King. A lifelong resident of Hartford, Barbara was a devoted and faithful servant of God, known for her strong spirit and for never missing an opportunity to boast about His greatness.

For over 30 years, Barbara was a proud and active member of Greater Refuge Church, where she ministered in surrounding correctional facilities and led outreach programs for women in need. Her ministry extended far beyond the church walls, touching countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith.

Barbara was well known for her elegant church attire, complete with matching hats, and for her signature talent playing that tambourine. On Family and Friends’ Day, she could be counted on to fill the pews with the largest crowd—testament to the love and respect she inspired.

She cherished Saturday tag sales with her twin daughters and fellowship over a good home-cooked meal. Famous in the kitchen for her curry beef with rice, cabbage, and cornbread, Barbara loved sharing her recipes—especially with her son Kenny. If she wasn’t cooking, you could find her granddaughter Shamika on the highway picking up Barbara’s favorite—fried clams, fries, and a Coke soda.

Barbara was preceded in death by her brother John L. Crouch Jr., sisters Janet Crouch, Sandra Crouch-Brown, Brenda Batchelor, and her beloved son Albert Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Kenneth Johnson Sr., Madeline Easley, and Melissa Easley, all of Hartford, CT; four grandchildren: Shamika (Suggie) Easley—her devoted caregiver—Kenneth Johnson Jr., Erica Dudley, and Michael Easley; and three great-grandchildren: Kenneth Johnson III, Shaheim Dudley, and Shaday Dudley, all of Hartford, CT.

She also leaves behind three special nieces: Marion Edwards, Nikia Brown, and Saleena White, along with her eldest cousin Shyann Mathis. Honorable mention is extended to her dear friends Tina, James, Sister Hobbs, Bernadine Silvers, Tiffany Watson, Brylynn Watson, and her loyal companion, her dog Poopsie.

Barbara’s legacy will continue through her abundance of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
