Deacon Charles Worth Howard, 85, of Manchester, CT departed this life Monday, December 2, 2024
at the Riverside Health Rehabilitation Center, East Hartford, CT. Born in Middlesex, NC,
he was the son of the late Burt Taft Howard and the late Margie Burgess Howard. He was a
member and Deacon of Ebenezer Holy Temple, Inc. for over 30 years.
He was a graduate of Cooper High School, Clayton, NC. He was hired August 22, 1969 at
Imperial Nurseries (Moniovia), Granby, CT as a Horticultural Craftsman and retired 53 years
Later on October 17, 2023. Deacon Howard loved maintaining the grounds of the church which
job”. One of Included planting flowers and hedges. AND definitely did not like anyone “stepping
in his lane” to do “his his happiest moments was watching television accompanied by popcorn,
jelly donuts, grapes and/or chocolate ice cream. Let us not forget his love for coffee. There was
always evidence that Deacon Howard had been in the area because the empty cup was left behind.
He had one daughter, Esther.
He leaves to celebrate his life, three brothers: Leon Taft Howard, Wendell, NC; Johnny Lee
Howard (Velma), Delran, NJ; and, Jan Edward Howard (Portia), Knightdale, NC; a sister, Pearl
Jewel Howard-Frieson (William), Bronx, NY; and a Sister-in-law, Patricia Howard (David’s wife).
Three nieces: Khadijah Hemingway, Sanford, NC; Jacqueline Howard, Raleigh, NC; and Tanya
Howard, NJ. Four Nephews, Aiyo Jones, Trent Howard, Willard Howard, Jr., Burt Lucas and a
host of great-nieces and nephews. A godson, Pastor Abram W. Moore. And a stepson, Bishop
Tyrone C. Black.
Besides his father and mother, he was predeceased by two brothers, Willard Gaston Howard & David Lee Howard.
