Mrs. Carrie King Lake was born on August 19, 1939, in Clarendon County, South Carolina, to the late Frazier King and Elizabeth Johnson King. She was united in marriage to her husband, the late James “Jimmy” Lake.
Carrie entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
She attended Spring Grove School and was a lifelong member of Greater Joy Mission Church. Ms. Lake enjoyed cooking, fishing, and entertaining family and friends. She especially cherished conversations with her sister, Bertha, in South Carolina, and time spent with her longtime cousin, Emma Stewart.
Ms. Lake retired from Hartford Hospital after 35 years of dedicated service. Additionally, she was employed for over 20 years at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph on Farmington Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut, and for several years at Café Louise on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut.
In addition to her parents and former husband, Ms. Lake was preceded in death by her son, Arnold King, affectionately known as “AK”; her grandson, Arnold “Kelvin” Blackwin; her great-grandson, Tyron R. George, also known as “TyTy”; her son-in-law, Thomas A. Flippen; her sisters, Camilla K. Briggs and Mary K. Harris; her brother, Frazier King Jr., also known as “Tucker”; her brother-in-law, Pernell Briggs; her nieces, Georgia Briggs and Afelia A. Briggs; and her nephews, Larry Briggs and Pernell Briggs Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Deborah King, Shirley King (Thomas Flippen), and Cathy K. Flippen (Leslie Flippen); two sons, Carlton King and James W. King; one sister, Betty Davis; two brothers, Simon Richardson and Herbert King; twenty grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and seventeen great-great-grandchildren; two cousins, Emma Stewart and Emily Lee Davies; one goddaughter, Debra Daniels; one brother-in-law, John Davis; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Following the service, interment will take place at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT 06118.
A repast will be held at 2550 Main Street, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06120.
