Carmen Blake Obituary

Carmen D. Blake, 60, of Windsor, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 29, 2017 at Saint Francis Hospital surrounded by the love of family members and close friends.  Born November 13, 1956 in Hartford, Connecticut, Carmen was the youngest child of the late Isabel Mendes Blake I.  She, like her family members a generation before her, was a lifetime member of Saint Michael Church (formerly Saint Benedict Church), Hartford.  Carmen was the beloved mother of Fletcher A. Pitts Jr., and the proud grandmother of Jakai, Khalil and Kanye Pitts.  Carmen was blessed with a loving and devoted daughter-in-law, Alzira (Perez) Pitts.

 Carmen is survived by sisters, Rosa P. Brooks (Carl), Paula L. Douglas (Nathaniel), Renee B. Wilder (Kevin), Pamela E. Cato-Abernathy (Melton), Judith B. Wimberly; brother, Reginald P. Blake; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, and “Cousins By the Dozen” all of whom she loved dearly.

Carmen is also survived by siblings, Robin Williams (Howard), Theresa Williams (Andrew), Crystal Lewis (Quinten), Denita Rodriguez (Kimyatta), Aisha Stephens, Faith Stephens, James Cotton Jr., Dwight Harris, George Crouch, Derrick Lewis, and Joel Cotton (Marena).

 Carmen was predeceased by siblings, Roy G. Blake Sr., Cassandra “Bobo” Blake, Martin “Speedo” Blake, Marsha Blake, Charlene Cotton and Mark Cotton; sister in law Brenda Henderson Canty, nephews Leroy Blake, Omar Honoré Sr., Dartanyon “Dayron” Blake Sr.; great-niece Shelby Blake and great-nephew Lloyd Duncan Jr.; father James Cotton and her beloved Fletcher A. Pitts Sr.

Calling hours are Thursday, November 9, 2017 10am-12pm with funeral service at 12 pm at Mount Olive Church Ministries, 20 Battles St., Hartford, CT. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
