Calhoun William Sowell, Sr.

Calhoun Wm. Sowell Sr. 82 of East Hartford, CT for over 60 years by way of South Carolina died on Friday, April 26, 2024.

He is predeceased by his wife and number one woman in his life of over 50 years Mary (Mackey) Sowell, his brothers Lawrence, Fred, Roach, Will & JW Sowell, sisters Mary (Sowell) Ponds, Marjorie (Sowell) Miller, Lola (Sowell) Morgan, Lolabelle & Ruth Sowell and his parents father William (Bill) & adopted mother Lona (Newman) Sowell. He was the last in his line of siblings.

Children and grandchildren carry on his lineage; Merry C. Garrett of Tolland, CT,  Calhoun Wm. Sowell Jr., Andre P. Sowell,  Frederick Sowell, Melanie E. DeJesus, of East Hartford, CT., his grandchildren Daisy Garrett,  Calhoun Wm. III & Tashia Sowell, Tatianna & Adriana Sowell, Frederick Sowell Jr., Israel & Solomon DeJesus.

Cal was a member of the Masons and 60+ years proud union member including of; Local 1CT Fund International Bricklayers Allied Craft Workers for many decades. He specialized in complex masonry and structural work. In Connecticut, if you've entered large commercial or specialized structures, used any of the major highways or key bridges you probably enjoyed the conveniences of his work. After retirement he owned a landscaping company. Cal enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, DYI projects, his wife Mary's supremely prepared meals, playing pool, and BBQing. He and his wife had fun times traveling and via Foxwood Casino High Rollers Balls. He did life his way and left many - many stories to be told.

The service will be held grave side at Silver Lane Cemetery 1280 Silver Lane East Hartford, CT 06118 on May 2, at 11 am.
