Brian “Bizzy B” Keith Syms, Sr., beloved husband of Katrina (Edmonds) Syms, departed this life on January 4, 2017 suddenly at home. Brian was born to the late Clarence and Lena Mae Syms and raised in Hartford. Brian attended Weaver High School and graduated in 1984.
At 12 years of age, young Brian began his boxing career, training at the San Juan Center in Hartford under the direction of mentor, manager and friend, George Cruz. Brian’s boxing career spanned 18 years, from 1978-1996. One of the many highlights included sparring with Mike Tyson as he was preparing for heavyweight title fights. Brian’s boxing record stands at 5-1-0, which includes 4 knockouts.
In addition to his wife, five sons, Chauncey, Antonio, George, Christian and Brian Jr., and daughter Kia, he also leaves his seven beautiful granddaughters, Simya, Jayde, Rosa, Surina, Gia, Gianna and Eliza; and two grandsons Joel and Cash. Brian was also predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Mark and Luigi, two sisters, Charlene and Linda and his nephews, Tyrek Reddick and Shaquille Newsom. He leaves behind two brothers Timothy and Ronald Syms; three sisters Peggy Brayboy, Gwendolyn and Sheila Syms and a host of beloved nieces and nephews whom he adored, Godparents John and Connie Wilson, Roslyn Lee Smith, loving sisters and brothers-in-law and his parents-in-law Cleve Baker and Yvonne Edmonds.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 16, 2017 at the All Faith Memorial Chapel in South Windsor, CT. Viewing hour at 10 00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 00 a.m. The Repast will follow immediately at the American Legion, located at 2121 Main St., Hartford.
Anyone wishing to can make memorial donations in Brian’s honor towards his son Brian Jr.’s educational fund at the University of Hartford, where he is currently a freshman.
