Bret H. Womack

Bret H. Womack, (Tunky) 65, of East Hartford, Connecticut departed this life on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones. 

Bret was born in Smithfield, NC and raised in Hartford, CT.  After attending high school, Bret set goals for himself at a young age, and gained full-time employment working at the Cellu-Tissue Holdings in Hartford, CT.  Bret’s determination and perseverance kept him constantly working, up until he sustained an injury at work, which had a crippling impact on his mobility and use of his left arm.  Bret never let his injury prevent him from doing what was most important...living life to the fullest.

Bret remarried in 2018 when he found love and happiness with Beryl (Peaches) Smith.  Bret was a man with a strong personality, contagious laugh, warm smile; and love for his family and friends was his pride and joy. Bret’s true desire was to be a vessel used by his Lord and Savior, and became an active member of Hopewell Baptist church of Hartford, CT.

Bret is survived by his caring and devoted wife of 5 years, Beryl (Peaches) Womack of East Hartford, CT; his daughter, Mattie Delores Dixon (William) of Henderson, NC; four brothers, James R. Womack Sr. (Olymphia), Billy L. Womack Sr. (Shari), Albert L. Womack (Denise), all of CT and Casanova C. Womack Sr.(Antoinette) of NC.  

Bret leaves to cherish his memory Four grandchildren that he loved dearly: Colby Iverson, Amilian Womack, Darnell Dixon and Bishop Dixon, of Henderson, NC.

Bret also leaves to cherish his memory, one step-son, Anthony Smith (Ladylyn) and Anthony’s six children; Laelyn Melendez, Kaelyn Melendez, Milan Smith, Jaelyn Smith, Ava Smith and Skyla Smith all of CT.

Two Sisters-in-law; Carla Smith of Maryland, Lauren Smith of CT and one Brother-in-law; Wendell Smith of Mass.

Bret leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom he loved greatly.  His desire is that we cherish special memories and carry on his legacy.   

Bret was predeceased by his father and mother: Bret H. Womack Sr. & Gracie Mae Womack of CT, and a loving brother, Bobby Womack of NC.
