Bishop Donald Devone Johnson, Sr. was a Raleigh, North Carolina native. He graduated from the Hartford Public School system. He was an Army Veteran where he served our country for 7½ years and received an Honorable Discharged in 1983. In 2007, Bishop Johnson received a degree in Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counseling. He also graduated from the Black Ministry Program at the Hartford Seminary and studied at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, MA. Bishop Johnson was very active in the community of Hartford where he was one of the founders of Hope Street Ministry. Bishop Johnson most recently served as the Chaplin for Men Standing Up Against Violence which is a ministry where men are coming together to stand against violence in the city of Hartford.
Bishop Johnson was called into the pastorate in 2003 and the Lord allowed him to birth New Hope Christian Church Ministries. On October 29, 2019, Bishop Johnson was elevated from the Office of Pastor to the Office of Bishop under Chief Apostle Antwan Chavis of Kingdom Connections International, of Syracuse, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Johnson, brothers Gregory Johnson and Kenya Stevens. Bishop Johnson leaves to mourn his wife Reverend Lisa A. Johnson, CoPastor of 13 years. His four children from the late Barbara Johnson – Anthony (Kameika) Peay, Sherrell Johnson and fiancé Jay, Hagerstown, MD, Donald Johnson, Jr., Gregory Johnson; Bonus children Minister Aryelle Dawson, Overseer Melvin Dawson, lll, and Ahkeem Thomas, MIA, FL. His siblings, Joan Hightower, Monique (Michael) Perry, Bunn, NC., Rosalyn Stevens, Kimberly Govan, Ocala, FL., Barbara Carlton-Brown (Lorenzo), Farmington Hills, MI., Natalie Stevens, Phillip Peterkins (Val) United Kingdom, England, Phillis Peterkins, Elbert (Sharon) Robinson, sister in love (law) Rolanda Johnson, Mauldin, SC and bonus father Roland Stevens. Seven grandchildren: Anthony, Jr., Eric, Kyhlon, Kysheen, Serenity, Harmony, Tamir and Kelis; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and godchildren.
Bishop Johnson was a good Husband, Father, Sheppard, Leader, and Teacher. He was a man who was continually seeking God for the next level for the work of The Kingdom.
