Anthony 'Larry' Kellier, 81, of Bloomfield, CT and beloved husband to Selena Kellier peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Larry was born May 12, 1943, in Springfield, Saint James Jamaica, son of the late Llewellyn Kellier and Iris Faulkner-Kellier.
He attended the local area schools and was later employed at Cornwall Regional Hospital for many years. Larry immigrated to the United States in the mid 1970's and lived in Hartford, CT then later moved to Bloomfield, CT. Shortly after arriving in Hartford, he worked with his brother Rudolph at Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford, CT. He was also employed by the Visiting Nurse Association, transporting visiting nurses, and most prominently employed by Hartford Hospital.
In 2023, Larry eventually retired from Hartford Hospital after 42 years of service, a place that he absolutely valued. He often shared that his most fondest Hartford Hospital memory was meeting Selena, who became his devoted wife of 33 years.
In addition to his job, Larry kept quite busy with yard projects and fun hobbies. He developed many loyal and respectable friendships through the years. He was affectionately known as “Dad” by his domino buddies and as “Uncle Larry” by many more people than his actual nieces and nephews. Along with Selena, Larry also loved to be around family and friends and would often entertain others at their home. Together, they attended and hosted many parties and big cookouts. He had a passion to “run boat” - where folks were sure to have traditional Jamaican dishes while playing dominos and listening to good music in the background. He enjoyed his group trips to Canada with New Britain Social Club and held a special place in his heart for Pennsylvania where he visited his sister Blen and other special relatives. Larry accompanied Selena to Pilgrim Way Baptist Church.
Throughout his life, even as his health declined, he remarkably maintained his dignity while facing various challenges. He demonstrated strength and perseverance and was incredibly supportive of others.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Larry’s passing will leave an indelible void in the hearts of his loving wife Selena, his daughter Sheron and grand-daughter Shenelle; his son Kingsley (Christina) and grand-children Khristian, Kyle, Zaida; his daughter Antoinette (Dharmendra) and grand-daughter Biana; his sisters Joyce Clarke, Hazelyn Miller, Blenderlyn Kellier and brother Steadman Kellier, plus a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sisters Clarice Kellier, Cynthia Lawrence, Phyllis Ainsley, and Deloris Kellier, and his brothers Rudolph Allen, Calville Kellier, Baldvin Brooks, Osmand Kellier, and stepson Leon Owens.
Larry’s family will receive family and friends on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 8am-9am, followed by a celebration of life at 9am, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 19 Columbia Rd, Windsor, CT. The interment will follow immediately after in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
