Music by The Piano Brothers

Willie Paul Durant, 68, departed this life January 25, 2021. Born on January 10, 1953 in Wintergarden FL, he was the second of seven children. He is predeceased by his dear mother, Rebecca Mency, his father, Roy Durant, and his brother Gilbert Durant.

Willie grew up in Manchester, CT. He graduated fromManchester High School and Greater Hartford Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. He also served our country in the U. S. Air Force.

Willie was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of the great outdoors and was an avid nature and fitness buff. He enjoyed the openness of New Hampshire’s landscape where he could take in the fresh waters and bicycling. He was a martial arts enthusiast, and he took great pride in passing his appreciation of martial arts on to his nephew. Willie also played the guitar and enjoyed football, motorcycles, and the super beetle Volkswagen.

Willie and his siblings grew up attending Victory Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop George Ramsey. He often spoke fondly of the times going to church with his mother and family. Among his family and friends, he was known to be a very generous and helpful person, one who could be depended upon and who shared his knowledge and resources, as well as his dry sense of humor liberally.

Willie leaves three sisters: Ruth Jennette Mwansa, Cassandra James Johnson (Roosevelt Johnson), and Zenobia Jean Birdsong (Minister Melvin Birdsong), two brothers: Sterling Durant (Iris Banks Durant) and Jeffrey Durant, and a host of nieces, nephews, extendedfamily, and friends to cherish his memory. He also leaves five special friends who provided care and support during his illness: Latoya Dacosta, Lenny Fitzpatrick, Debra Calkins, Valerie Chance and Victor Campbell.

Those who knew Willie know that he would not have said goodbye or farewell to you all, but he would have left you with a heartfelt word - “Peace”!
