Charles “Charlie” Bragg Sr was born to Socrates “Red” Bragg and Emma Bragg née Key in Boligee, Alabama on October 12th, 1937. Charlie went home to be with the Lord on February 23rd, 2024 in Hartford, Connecticut. He had one sister named Molly and four brothers named Henderson, Jerome, Socrates and James.
Charlie married Dorothy Marie Bragg née Jones in Lumpkin, Georgia and relocated to Detroit, Michigan. They moved again, sowing roots here in Hartford.
Both a musician and athlete, Charlie was the front-man of a band and softball pitcher. Like many musicians of his day he sang, played guitar and bass, serving Motown-funk and soul. He played softball for his longtime-employer, Colt’s Firearms as a pitcher. He worked for Colt’s Manufacturing aka Colt’s Firearms for 30 years.
Charlie’s appreciation of sports ran deep. His love for his community ran deeper. He invested time in the youth via a little league football coaching position. He was also a Stowe Village Recreation Center Coordinator. In his position as a coordinator, Charlie took youth on wonderful field trips to beaches, Riverside waterside park, etc.
But more than anything, Charlie loved his family. He was a son, a brother, a father and a hero to many. Remembered as a storyteller, savant and community-pillar, he will truly be missed. Charlie leaves behind his six beautiful children Sonyetta Strickland, Emma Weatherington (Mark Weatherington,) Angela Marie Bragg, Bruce Kelvin Bragg (Renee Bragg,) Brian Keith Bragg (Willette Bragg,) and Charles Bragg Jr.

Charlie’s legacy is truly rich. In his 86 years on Earth, he managed to touch and change so many lives. May he live in eternal peace with Christ, Jesus our Lord. Amen.
